Subdolus followed by Ruinbottle and then Tiberious head down the stairs searching for traps and secret compartments (and anything else odd) while the rest of the party watches from above, moving down from a safe distance. Suddenly you see Subdolus heading back up the stairs, but with his back to you. When he reaches Ruinbottle you see he too starts back up the stairs with his back to you. The light from Tiberious's daggers allows him to see that the 2 thieves are not actually moving thier feet almost floating.
What would you like to do? (BTW the stairway is 8 feet wide and 12 feet high).
OOC: Stranger see your PM.

Softly, Zargon says, "Well, that's weird, isn't it, Boss?" OOC: Made it back, and Zargon's not dead yet! I only got one character killed at the Con, so... so far, so good!

Tiberious will remain invisible and stop the light from the dagger. He will hide close by the wall (also activating his cloak) and wait to see what happens (magic throwing daggers at the ready)

The rest of the group suddenly sees Tiberious "go dark" and invisible, uncertain what is going on. As Tiberious sits and waits you see the 2 thieves slowly move within arms length of you (about 30 seconds). You suddenly feel a jellyish substance attack your arm which burns intensly doing 5 pts of damage. Also you feel a powerful immobalizing sting but manage to break free (saving with a 14) or otherwise would have become paralyzed. now At close range, you can see this thing has a flat vertical surface (like a wall moving toward you), also upclose, you can see your comrads being slowly digested within the clear gel. The gel goes from floor to cieling and wall to wall, and you can as well as odd bits and pieces of things floating around within it (glinting from the light cast from above. The thing continues pushing up the stairs toward you normal walking speed, what do you wish to do? OOC: SKA, it would have been very amusing if you'd failed to save....going invisible and all

OOC: Fiendish!
Tiberious will quickly head up the stairs and tell the others what has happened. He willthen begin to fire crossbow bolts at the creature, trying to miss those encased init.
When time permits, he will also ask to be healed.

Taking his cue from Tiberious, Zargon will also shoot at the thing with his bow.

Tiberious's bolt sinks deep (doing 7 pts damage), as does one of Zargon's (inflicting 4) (both bolt and arrow miss the thieves trapped inside). Do the other fighters wish to shoot arrows or charge (I assume Cal and Em position themselves to attack this horrid thing)? Sog you are toward the back and glance around after hearing a "thump". To your horror you see another huge cube of gel drop from the cieling and engulf The Yellow Wizard (surprised and then hit with a 15, save 8)! Also, you see Smythus on the opposite side of the transparent cube nocked to the ground and smoking a bit, crawling away from the cube and trying to get to his feet. This new Gelatinous Cube ignores Smythus (to his relief) and crawls toward the main group, driving the main party downstairs........just as the one below is driving the party up. It appears these 2 cubes are hoping to herd you into the middle where they will meet each other for a feast . The new cube doesn't appear as large as the one down stairs, nor does it move as quickly, however its plenty big enough, and is about to block your only means of escape (before trapping you within the stairwell). Initiative: Monsters 2 group 3. Miles, who is behind Sog (closer to the front of the group) throws a hand axe hitting the new cube. He then steps backward as the monster slowly presses in. Sog, There is a 2 foot area between the new Cube and the wall. You could try to squeeze threw this opening (so as not to be trapped in the stairwell, but you couldn't get an attack in, and the beast would likely get a free back attack on you....a risky move), or you could move back down into the stair well out of its range as you are faster then it, (or you could attempt to attack). Next round the monster will be completely in the stair well, and there won't be a way to escape. As you contemplate what to do, you watch Cadellin's face staring out at you in horror and pain, for the moment unable to do more then twitch, already his flesh begins to bubble as he is digested. In summary: Smythus is in the main hall safe (having fallen on the far side of the beast), Cadellin (P&Ps character) is inside the Cube at the top of the stair way; Subdolus and Ruinbottle are trapped within the much bigger cube moving up from the bottom of the stairs, and everyone else is trapped between the 2 inside the stairwell being pushed toward the middle. Sog, at the top of the stairs could attempt squeeze threw the gap between the cube and the wall to avoid this trap, but it would be a bit risky. BTW the way I have the party set up Em and Calhagan fighters are already prepared to attack the one at the bottom; finish that attack and then let me know if you want to attack switch targets. Smythus (cube Cadellin inside it) ........ (top of stairs) Sog Miles Calhagan Emeriac Zargon Tiberious (huge cube, Subdolus and Ruinbottle inside it) ...........(bottom of stairs)

Sog can't risk a back attack with his armor in such bad condition, so he will "wade in" with an attack to attempt to free Cadellin while shouting for assistance. Attack with magical mace.

Using his sword, Calhagn also attacks the cube encasing the wizard.

Zargon quickly slings his bow over his shoulder and draws his new spiffy longsword to attack the cube he just shot.

Zargon charges the huge gelatenous cube and swings. His sword cuts threw it like butter, inflicting 11 pts. damage. Up close Zargon can see his friends begining to disolve. Calhagan charges up the stairs and hits for 10 total creating a large tear in the beast. Smythus throws a hamer but it bounces off (rolling a 3).
Once Em goes I'll role the counter attack.

I'll assume Emeranic will also charge the one toward the bottom (as he's much closer to it, otherwise it would take a round to get back up stairs to help Cadellin, and Calhagan's already up there). Standing slightly higher then Zargon on the stairs Em swings above his comrads head and creates a huge gash in the beast for 14 pts of damage. However the gel continues to move forward forcing the fighters upward or otherwise be absorbed.
Counter attack. The Gelatenous cube (upstairs) shoots forth a psuedopod like glob of gel at Calhagan hitting with an 18! You feel a sting but do not become paralyzed (saving with a 15). However you are burnt for 5 pts damage. Downstairs Zargon is attacked by the much bigger Gelatenous cube in a similar fashion. This one hits as well (with a 15) inflicting 6 pts of damage. Zargon fails his savings throw (with a 4!) and is pulled inside the Gel cube to be digested. Cadellin, Subdolus and Ruinbottle all take additional damage, how much is uncertain, but its not looking good. (Cadellin has gone threw 2 attacks, Ruinbottle 2 and Subdolus 3).
Initiative: Group 3 monster 1, you go first.
Smythus throws a flask of oil at the foot of the beast causing it to spray upward onto it. He then tosses his torch but the torch fails to ignite it.
