Axe---is there a way to shield people who want to investigate the secret door? (for ex hold up a large shiled?) Perhpas our cleric could memorize some resist fire spells and this might protect from the hot mud.

The secret door is actually a door covered in layers of mud (so really more concealed then secret) its going to take some clearing requiring both hands to remove it enough to open it.
I'll assume Sog uses up 2 spells and memorizes 2 resist fires (assuming he didn't already have them). The 2 scouts now protected by the spell are pelted by the burning mud but take no damage. After 10 minutes the stone door is cleared and openned inward. A mist covers the dark room beyond and you can't see threw it more then a few feet do you want to enter and investigate?

Yes, we should investigate the room.

The scouts go first down a short 20 foot halway until reaching a door of stone warm to the touch. After some consideration, the two push it in and are hit by a bright orangy light and the wooshing sound of fire. The door opens into a huge triangular room with black polished and highly reflective floor walls and ceiling.
In the center of this odd room (btw, each wall is 60 feet long and the ceiling 25 feet high) are BRIGHT columns of orange flame shooting upward from round pits and disappearing into the ceiling threw holes. The air in here is very hot and difficult to breath (being a combination of salty steam and a bit smokey) but all can manage for a bit (though Tiberious and Sub are still protected with the resist fire spell).
Directly between the two columns of flame stands a statue of a muscular bronze man reaching back to throw a stone ball. It stands 12 feet tall, and its forward arm is pointing north (its surface is scoldingly hot).
Moving cautiously the 2 scouts examine the statue and Tiberious (1-6) discovers the pointing finger of the statue can be removed (and after checking for traps) he removes it. The large finger pulls out revealing a foot long silver rod attached to its end with a keyed end on it. Searching the room for a place to put this odd key Calhagan spots a hole in the floor that the odd "finger-key" might fit. After clearing the room Subdolus places the key in and pushes down causing the floor there to rise upward (in a 5 foot square). When the grinding is over you see revealed what appears to be a black polished stone control panel with 3 stone levers sticking out of it. Subdolus is able to read several inscriptions carved over each of the levers (his sword telepathically translating the druidic ruins). The center lever translates "Great Mountain Pass", the left says "The Northern Sea" and the right says "The End!". The center lever is pushed in the down position, the left is pushed completely up, and "The End" is pushed completely down.
Do you wish to do anything with these levers?
The rest of the room is carefully searched and nothing else of interest is found. Subdolus suspects that the columns of flame errupting from the floor of this room and disappearing into the ceiling correspond exactly to the 2 fire pits in the U shaped room you entered above (somehow stay within columns (rather then fire filling the room) and then passing thew the underground sea level without notice...Sog says the later might be some sort of dimensional effect).

"Very strange indeed----too bad our wizard has been reduced to a child's action figure!" Says the monk.

"Where were we supposed to go again? It'd be neat if throwing a lever was all it took!"

"Heh don't ask me, unless you need someone to lift it, you know, if it's too heavy for ya..."

So leave it for now and return to the U shaped room? Remember, there is a road that goes over the mountain (the same road you took from Grime and the one Zargon came over from the other side) that disappears under the glacier that leads to the keep and then back down the otherside (perhaps this lever somehow relates to this mountain pass -you think).

"Where were we supposed to go again? It'd be neat if throwing a lever was all it took!" The group was looking for some prince and his sister (the sister has been found in a clear crystal and is back with the horses; the prince is still missing). The only way you guys haven't gone is through the secret door Subdolus spotted in the storage closet in the U shaped room (where you took the elivator down from). The closet is where the air elemental came out of.

"Heh don't ask me, unless you need someone to lift it, you know, if it's too heavy for ya..." "Naw, I can lift it..." replies Zargon with a grin. "You guys want me to?" If directed, Zargon will throw any lever he's told to throw.

Let's go check the secret door back in the U-shaped room, though honestly, I'm at a loss on how to get back there.

GO over the ropes you left (connecting the island your on to the cresent shaped island with the thrones and then back up the elivator which brings you back to the main U shaped room.

Then let us do so. The AE coming from there might suggest something worth guarding.

The group returns across the rope and then up the elivator, for the time leaving the underground sea. The room is unchanged from before, the fire in the 2 fire pits moving about as if alive (you suspect they may be fire elementals neither seems interested in your presence...perhaps awaiting instruction).
You make it over to the closet and find most everything that was stored in their (bottles, ceramic bowls and flasks, test tubes and many other delicate glass containers destroyed. Of particular interest however is an ornamental brass vase which lies on its side. When you look down inside you see it has no bottom and disappears into blackness. A wind comes out of it now and then which makes a howling noise. Also every frew minutes you hear distant noises from inside. The vase is 3 feet high with a narrow opening at the top shaped about 6 inches across. The vase only weights about 25 pds if you want to take it. Despite being banged up it seems otherwise fine. Its many glyphs are unreadable to you, however Subdolus does make out something about a portal. DO you wish to enter the secret door (located in the closet) at this time, or mess with the vase some?

Has the secret door been checked? Was a mechanism to open it discovered? Don't know about passing through, but opening the door to take a look would be an idea.
As an aside, is Cadellin's condition permanent until dispelled, or are we on the clock?
