Hail and well met, all you old school aficionadoes.
I've lurked this site for about a year now, by way of the Knights & Knaves Alehouse. Axe's game has provided invaluable procrastinaty entertainment as I've vicariously followed the mishaps and misdeeds of the brave party.
Now I feel ready to return the favor: IRL, I'm running the classic module C1, The Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan, for my sundry friends and gaming crew - in its intended 60 minute timed format! Now, I feel economies of scale apply equally well to modules as to manufacturing, so....
Without further ado, I would like to invite any group of 3 players to participate in the Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan via play by post.
Scores will be kept and matched against other groups of players on the site, and a time tracking system will be used to approximate the real-time countdown that occurs when the module is played on the tabletop.
Is there sufficient interest in this tourney?
Please leave a reply to this thread, and with a site moderator's aid, I will start up a fresh topic in the play by post section (with house rules, files, and other useful info) once I have enough participants to break into groups of 2 or 3 players.
Thanks for reading -
Angle

Great! Anyone else want to join Axemental on the other side of the DM screen?
For those who use it, I have also started up the game on playbyweb.com, but if there is sufficient localized interest in the tourney, I can host it here as well.

Well i can't get to play by web from work, so if you want to move it here, that would be good for me.

I'm glad both DM's are going to take a turn as players. It shouldn't take too long to find a third with that momentum, so...
Can either of you set up a new forum in Play by Post called "C1: The Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan?"
I have intro text to upload, along with jpgs of badly xeroxed original module art and character sheets (for that period feel).

This sounds good, and the one hour time frame means there will only be 59 minutes left after I die. ;D

I'll give it a go. I've dropped out of PbP games prior, but that was due to a lack of reliable net access. But now I have it at home and work so there should be no problem on my end.
However, I am a neophyte at 1e rules and the like, so i would need lots of help on that end. Not a D&D novice by any means, just a novice to 1e (I was born in '84, so I am innocent!).

Hah hah, Gerto.
No one stays innocent for long.
We're waiting on the board admin to add a new forum "C1: The Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan" to start posting for the game.
In the meantime, you and Axe and Master can read the following intro text, and list your preferences for PC roles. First 3 posts get to be in group alpha in the tourney.
THE HIDDEN SHRINE OF TAMOCHAN
Prologue: Part the First
Your party is lost!
You should have never cut away from the roads and struck out into the trackless Olmanese marshes, but your mounted pursuers were closing in, and the trackless bogs seemed the only way to outpace the relentless pursuit.
Stumbling through the Azclan fens, you make for higher ground in the distance. As you cross a low ridge and enter a dense line of jungle, the sun sinks below the horizon. Strange trees and clinging vines block out the waning light of dusk.
Breathless, you drop to the ground, eager to catch precious minutes of rest after hours of flight. Gradually, the merciful cool of night steals over these searing tropical lands. The companions gaze at each other in grim silence:
Cair the Apprentice, a half-breed who is both magician and thief by trade, loathed by agents of either profession.
Myhrra the Disgraced, a banished agent of a stern god, declared a heretic by the orthodoxy of her church.
And Rhialle the Wanderer, the closest you have to a guide in the uncivilized Olman lands, both savage by birth and savage by trade.
Allies by necessity and circumstance, you three had hoped to find refuge from your troubles in the searing Southern wildlands. But at every stage of your journey, your steps have been dogged by relentless pursuers who will not be deterred from the grim exercise of their law.
Pursuers whose shouts and cries echo through the dimming jungle even now!
Next step - choose which of the three characters - Cair (1/2E M-U5/Th7), Myhrra (Hum C7), or Rhialle (Hum F6) - you'd like to play for the module. Please list your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice when responding.
Here are Stranger's choices, as I received them yesterday. As first to post, Stranger is now in Group Alpha!
Cair (1/2E M-U5/Th7) - 1 Myhrra (Hum C7) - 2 Rhialle (Hum F6) - 3

Ska said he would play too but might be limited in time, so i don't know how that would work with your time limited game. Subdolus also expressed interest as well.
here are my choices
Cair (1/2E M-U5/Th7) - 1 Myhrra (Hum C7) - 2 Rhialle (Hum F6) - 3

So I didn't make it into group alpha? Am I the only one in group beta?

Gerto - yeah, group Alpha is full up.
If Ska and Subdolus join, though, you can start on group Beta with them.
