Calhagn asks Fletcher if he can put our boat near the bank. Assuming he agrees that may makes us less noticeable. Cal will also suggest everyone get low in the boat to lower our profile.
"We could get some easy loot out of this."

Fletcher puts the boat in near a bluff and some reads where the group ducks down low and observes. Five minutes later the swaggering sailors finally finish loading the long boat and board her, sitting tight between wide boxes stuffed with wild apples, small game and other necessities, as well as barrels of fresh water. After some heaving the boat threw small breakers, the craft departs, lowering a white canvas sale. WIthin another 5 minutes of paddeling the crowded longboat reaches the larger vessle, and within another 5 minutes its emptied and hoisted up onto deck. Its crew joining the revalry it seems as the noise of party increases.
You carefully oar the boat closer down river and then tie it off. The scouts taking the lead Fletcher just behind, head over to the beach heading first to the 2 holes. As Subdolus approaches he can see (with some disappointment) what the holes are for. His hopes of burried treasure are dashed! Sticking out of each hole is the head of a human male facing the ocean. Washing in toward them are the smallest of waves pushing far into shore just now barely lapping into their faces. You suspect in another 30 minutes or so the ocean will completely move over them with the next high tide, and they will be drowned.
No real detail can be made of the 2 individuals from a distance, so Tiberious using his magical cloak moves close to both and listens. He finds one man is in his 50s with white hair the other his 40s blond and bearded, both gentlemen by the looks of their facial grooming. Both have well tanned strong faces with steely eyes. Despite being in peril neither has lost his nerve and both attempt in futility to escape. "d**ned my fool crew, I told them to move into the shallows, not into a bloody sandbar!" He begins coughing as another wave covers his head before drawing back out to sea. His companion nods in agreement, "they'll pay for that mistake, though not by our hands aye Rodago". Both continue to struggle making no headway. Tiberious comes back with this information. Does the group wish to rescue these 2 from certain death, or leave them to their fate?

"Sogathan, might using your crown be a good idea at the moment."

Axe--Tiberious made sure to retrieve his one magical axe that was contianed inside the shambling mound before the group left.
Definately use the helm of telepathy to see if we can tell whether or not the two on the beach are worth saving. Tiberious can question them as a disembodied voice while their minds are read.

After some reading (and Tiberious's questions) Sog figures out the elder gentleman, Rodago, was the pirate captain of a boat called the "Sea Wasp". His 1st mate Tukko is the one with the blond hair and beard. Both are experianced fighters and killers (despite having the reputation as courtly gentlemen in some circles.
Tukko feels a small amount of guilt knowing it was his piloting that actually got the Sea Wasp stuck, but was happy to blame the crew at the time. The Wasp had been followed by a rival pirate for two days until finally Rodago foolishly attempted to loose them in shallow waters he wasn't familiar with, and then Tukko hit the sand bar.
For punishment, the Wasp was burnt, and half the crew killed, the other half made prisoners to be sold as slaves in the far north.
The boat that sits out in the natural harbor is Axelgrun, of Northern origin. She is captained by Skugg a firey haired northern pick gone pirate. The vessel is crewed by 35 scum, and they are on their return journey to the north selling slaves and other stolen goods.
Of course the story they tell Tiberious (in words) is that they are spice merchants that were captured by pirates. Their crew is held prisoner on board, and that if he rescues them the spice merchant guild will pay to him a great reward.
Luckily the crown foils thier rather believable story. They play the part of pathetic rich weaklings rather well.
Calhagan remembers the picks as barbarian sorts that rarely sailed far from land. They were often captured as slaves and brought south...how ironic. They are red haired and tall and have their own language (though most also speak common). Skugg must be an unusual sort of pick to be piloting a boat. Apparently the crew of the Wasp gave up without a fight once they saw Skugg on deck. Niether Cal nor Ermanaric know the name of Skugg, though they've been away from sea for a good while.

Surely Rodago has a ransom squirreled away somewhere. We could bring him to Grime, under careful watch, as he arranges to pay us some reasonable fee for rescue.
He may also be useful in the future.
Cal will think upon the ways that Rodago could be useful, as the worn out fighter romanticizes his own days as a pirate.

Rodago had most of his wealth on board the Wasp (about 4000 GPS worth hidden under the floor boards of his cabin). His vessel was burnt and sunk and he doubts if he could ever find it again (somewhere between here and Grime). He does have 500 GPs sitting in a bank back in Grime however, and a small house overlooking the bay worth another 1,000 GPs. But your certain the old captain likely has friends in Grime. So tread carefully, it could be risky.

Subdolus considers Cal's suggestion then responds to him, "I fear I must disagree with you. I can only see trouble coming from these two and think we should leave them to their fate."

Do you wish to do anything with the vessel, or let it sail in the morning (what the two burried pirates believe they are preparing to do).

Reluctantly, Calhagn leaves the fate of the two pirates to nature and to whichever gods may care. So tread carefully, it could be risky. Unlike the nice safe work we've been doing the last many weeks.

Sog has Tiberious ask some more questions (something I'm pretty sure he'd ask if we were playing around a table) and discovers the captain's cleric was spared and made a prisoner. In his sachel were 3 nuetralize poison scrolls as well as a scroll of protection from demons and devils 2 potions of healing, and one of animate dead. The captain is a 8th level fighter, the first mate Tuko a 5th level thief, 4th level fighter. The captains cleric is 4th. The water is now hitting their faces every minute or so.

From the sounds of partying, even from this distance, it doesn't sound as if they're going anywhere anytime soon. Maybe after a couple of hours of that, and under cover of darkness, a small boat wouldn't even be noticed by that drunken and/or sleeping crew. Man, a group of stealthy men in a quick strike could likely take advantage of that lot.
