To keep things moving I'll just assume the group searches the area around the stagnant water but fail to find anything other then old bones, clumps of human hair and pieces of rusted metal (some you can identify such as belt buckles, bits of armor and the like). It is a disgusting find.
Tiberious and Subdolus signal the group that they will both go first moving silently threw the mucky watr. The dripping water echoing loudly in the room help cover your noise.
The two scouts cross the room and finally move up cracked stairs on the far north side of the room and then eventually onto a landing covered in bones and skulls, human and orc (some still with flesh upon them) which leads to a 10 foot wide and high hall infront of you. Orange flickering light alluminates this hall from beyond, revealing a large black hound 15 feet ahead of you (as if guarding). At first it seems normal enough, but observing it longer you see it has glowning eyes and smoke and occasional flame trickling from its mouth.
If the large black mastiff is a guard, it is failing to do so very well. Instead it is occupide with what appears to be a large bat trying to escape from its place of hiding........a deep recess in the wall where stones had crumbled out long ago.... a mini cave for the flying rodent you think. Watching a bit longer you see this is no bat it toys with but a bat like creature but a humogulus (with little muscular legs, arms and pointy tail). The little fiend is armed with a broken femur with a sharp end and it attempts to stick the black hound every time it tries to grab it with its sharp teeth and claws. Both animals seem wickedly evil to you, and the hound seems frustrated at the little evil beast.
IN any event you are 20 feet from both and neither seem to be aware of you. The hall continues beyond and a fire 50 feet ahead can be seen. You hear wicked chanting...somehow it seems to make your skin crawl as you are now much closer.
What does the group wish to do. You think you could retreat out the way you came without alerting the hound, and the evidence does suggest that Sog was sacrificed (indicated by the blood stains on the alter).
Or you could attack, and attempt to recover his body.

Tiberious suggest the follwoing:
He will return to the group and suggest the following. The remaining fighter can take on the hell hound and the imp creature. Myself and subdolus will attack the hag. I would ask the fighters to give the monk and thief a few minutes lead time to try to sneak by the hell hound.
The thief would need to use his magical dagger's fireball/meteor storm ability on the hag or this rescue may fail or should not be attempted.
Tiberious will put it up to a vote by the rest of the group.

He will return to the group and suggest the following. The remaining fighter can take on the hell hound and the imp creature. With 29 HP this may be very risky. However, if the need is truly dire, then Ermanaric will go along with it.

OOC: Sorry about the delay guys, I was hoping to get a response from Stranger before starting combat, seeing he's going into harms way (and I want to know how he uses his magical dagger (which summons meteorites). If he doesn't post by tomarrow I'll go ahead and assume he goes with Tiberious's plan.

OK to recap: Semaj (Sogathan) was taken during an ambush by a giantess hag and carried deep into the forest to a ancient and forgotten temple. Within you followed it deep into the earth to a cavernous room below the temple covered in several feet of filthy stagnant muck. Crossing this pool you eventually found what appeared to be the blood of Sogathan on an unholy alter (stronlgy suggesting a sacrifice). You continued on to see if he still may live, or at least to recover his dead body. Eventually you came to a raised stone platform against the opposite wall. Yelping and sounds of clatter revealed a hellhound attempting to eat a Homonculous trapped in a crack in the wall. Beyond these two guards was fire light and long passage.
Tiberoius (SKA) formulated a plan to have himself and Subdolus (Stranger) sneak past the guard and go down the hall to hopefully gain surprise on the giantess hag and use Subdolus's magical dagger. The remaining fighters have been told to hold back for several minutes before rushing the hellhound and hom. (preferably attacking when they hear the meteor blast from Strangers dagger.
OK here it goes. The two scouts move undetected onto the platform (aided with their magical items) and sneak into the hall. As Subdolus passes threw the hall he seems to be detected by the Homonculous (somehow detecting his presence) THe little beast starts to wave his finger at Subdolus and looks up at the hellhound attempting to gain its attention, but unable to make a sound, the Hellhound ignores its motions (perhaps suspecting a trick) and continues to snear and bite at the little Homonculous.
The monk and thief continue down the passage, Subdolus in front. The nimble thief detects a well hidden and particularly nasty trap 25 feet down the hall (rolling a 1%). Any preasure placed upon one particular stone on the floor and a powerful spring controlled razor sharp Guillotine would drop from a small line in the ceiling, undoubtedly cutting the victim in half! Of all the traps the half elf has ever found, he's most glad he detected this beauty.
The two scouts make it to the end of the 50 foot hall and come to a large round room 80' in diameter. Large fat columns support a vaulted ceiling 70 feet high. The columns have carvings of hiddeous smiling devils and demons with their arms raised as if supporting the weight of the roof. Sneaking behind one of these columns Tiberious and Stranger peer toward the center. In the center is the elongated grotesque Bhannog between two fires that spring from stone bowls. The bhannog stands before a huge pile of red tanned flesh (a huge flesh golemn under construction) which she is preparing to sew Semaj's body to. The flesh golemn she stands before is 12 feet tall with a muscular body, and its eyes already glow with a red fire, blinking and peering around with perhaps some intellegence.
Behind the pile of moving flesh is the smashed statue of a winged serpent god, perhaps a Naga. The construct being put together seems to be near completion, perhaps Sogathan's body will be the finishing touch. Luckily the group has made good speed, and she still prepares her tools for horrendous ceremony *sewing twine, tanning solution, and she now sharpens a long thin skinning knife against a stone chanting outloud in an inhuman voice.
6 worshipping villagers watch trembling, both terrifide by the hag witch and mesmorized by her evil. Two half eaten villager bodies lay next to the other 6, no sign of struggle and thier dress in purple robes suggests they may have offered themselves as meals to her. Both are missing the top halves of their bodies, and the blood running down her chin suggests she ate them. These villagers watch on from 20 feet away.
Subdolus looks at his ring, its always helped in the past, lets hope it has a little left in it. He speaks the command word and summons 3 meteors which appear near the ceiling and whistling at incredible speed drop directly onto the hag! Despite the giantess's 60% magic resistance she fails to be protected (rolling a 94%) and good God she roles a 3 for her normal save against magic (the dice gods favor the half elf today it seems). The Bhannog takes two direct hits and the third hits the ground directly between her and her followers. With an explosion that rocks the temple the room is engulfed in stone fragments and smoke. Even behind the protection of the column, both scouts are thrown to the ground and hit by stinging pieces of stone rubble doing 3 pts damage to Subdolus (Tiberious manages to avoid them with his petrification role). When the smoke clears you see the Bhannogs feet in her shoes smoking at the bottom of a 4 foot crater, the rest of her body covers the floor and walls. Likewise the villagers have been blasted to the back of the room, all lay motionless (and are infact dead). The body of Sogathan was thrown across the room and is now missing an arm, but is otherwise intact (though you find where a dagger had been thrust into his heart earlier). The giant flesh golemn was thrown backwards and lies on the ground broken into several pieces at its seems (where the stitching ripped open).
The massive blast however, has caused two of the pillars nearest her to form massive cracks which seem to be crumbling. A rumble can be heard coming from above, as if the entire ceiling might come down at any moment.
The two scouts run in and recover Semaj's body. Subdolus quickly scans the room and finds the sachel carried by the hag still attached to her shoulder. He takes this and helps Tiberious out just as the two columns crack and collapse, bringing down the roof!
Meanwhile the fighters hear and feel the massive explosion, and then witness the cloud of dust swooping out of the hallway entrance. The two monster guards turn in astonishment. The fighters charge clearing the distance rather quickly. Initiative: monsters 3 group 1. The hellhound hears the approaching fighters and blasts Ermanaric and Zargon for 7 pts damage each (both fail to save vs. fire breath). The Homonculous in horror flys at Zargon attempting to bite, but fails to penetrate his armor. Both fighters attack Ermanaric hist the hound for 11 pts damage total. Zargon swings hitting it twice for 10 pts of damage killing it. Initiative: Monster 6 group 1. The hell hound bites at Ermanaric clamping its black firey jaws onto his plated arm, but it does no damage. This round Zargon finishes the beast driving his magical blade threw it several times.
Moments later the two scouts emerge carrying the battered body of the cleric Semaj between them. The sound of rumbling continues, and it is apparent the entire temple may be at risk of caving in. Apparently those columns were critical in the support of the interior of this place.
The group make it back to the stairs and then rush up them. This is difficult as the ground dances below them several inches in powerful vibrations. Cracks form in the ceiling above them and chips of stone fly off. Surely you have only moments. Everyone saves and can keep their footing, and make it out just as the temple begins to shake violently. Even the ground around the temple shakes, as if an earthquake was taking place. The group, badly battered runs from the area and heads back to the forest. Looking back you see the trees shaking, birds flying away and then after a low roar dust in the air. Subdolus and Tiberious go back to see what remained and find half the temple completely collapsed. The entrance you had escaped threw gone.
The group makes it to the village without any problems. Subdolus finds with in the sack taken from the Bahnnog a leather case holding scrolls which he attempt to read. 2 Webs, 3 monster summoning 2, 3 stone to flesh, 2 fire ball (as if 8th) 3 fly. Also within is a book of demons and devils and how to bind them (very valuable), as well as a case. The thief detects a needle trap and removes it. Within he finds it is filled with gems and jewlerly. Also in the sack are 3,000 GPs worth of PP and GPs.
Subdolus and Tiberious carefully take the stoned bodies from their bags of holding (I will assume) Subdolus reads the scrolls of stone to flesh. Both Cadellin and Calhagan are restored to flesh (RL 17, 89, 4) one scroll doesn't work so all three Stone to Flesh are used up.
The Yellow Wizard is horrified to awaken to see his dead cleric friend. He had thought the bug eyed cleric would always cheat death, and that his frail body would be the first to parish! Hah, as fate would have it, it was he who survived this ordeal.
Does the group wish to continue back to town and attempt to bring Sog back to life? Some of you are badly damaged. The villagers tell you a druid lives out in the woods and they think they could contact him to come back to the village if paid well. The only problem is that it will take one or two days to find him. Let me know if you want to stay in the village, camp outside, or head back to the city now. You find the groups horses have also been rescued. The villagers said the first night the group was gone they ran back to the village terrified of something.

Tiberious suggest the group heal up as best as possible without waiting around in the village and head to the city.
Hopefully we can restore the cleric to his former, living self.
OOC: Man, been some time since played. Axe, can you give a list of who is alive and in what condition? I know the group recenlty leveled so th eonly new treasure is what we just found?
