The thief throws down the ring and jumps back out of the room. Within seconds a bright flash of light occurs blinding you a bit. As your eyes clear you look within and see 3 sets of green eyes glowing out toward you. Then you see the bodies of what appear to be large dark cats each with two large black tentacles coming out of their bodies lined with yellowish teeth like ridges. They surprise the party for 2 segments (Subdolus and Tiberious for 1)
Rushing toward the group they first hit the fighters. Seg 1: Cal is hit with 2 tentacles that whip around his head and shoulder for 10, the others miss.
segment 2 Ermanaric is hit with 3 tentacles which rip threw his armor for 15.
Init: Group 3, monsters 1 your up.

Incredibly, the first magic missile actually misses, hitting the rock just above where you thought it was! The other three hit blowing off large chunks of fur (inflicting 8pts damage).
Ermanaric and Cal both hit doing 15 and 13 to each of theirs. Fletcher misses completey his sword passing threw where the monster should have been. Tiberious throws his axes and hits with one for 7, while Subdolus throws daggers missing with both. Sog casts CLW on Ermanaric for 2.
Just then another bright flash occurs, this time from the room your in. two more displacer beasts appear this time behind the group (no surprise is won).
Initiative: Monsters 6 group 4.
Ermanaric is hit again for 4, and Calhagan is missed completely. This time Fletcher is hit twice for 4 and 3. One of the displacer beasts goes for Tiberious hitting him for 8, and the other goes for Cadellin, both tentacles lashing across his mid section for 8 and 4.

OOC: Nah, I think Cal grabbed both of those (correct me if I'm wrong). There was also the bag of holding (that the prince fell out of) that had to be given to someone. Do you want that? (or someone else)?

Post by AxeMental on Jun 30, 2008 15:29:35 GMT -5
Fletcher roles a 20 with his shortsword of sharpness and beheads the one on him. Calhagan swings madly with his black two handed sword, blue electrical bolt illuminating the room. With one sweep a tentacle goes flying and then another cuts a deep gash in the displacer beast dropping it. ERmanaric misses as does Tiberious (both just missing as the creature seems to appear where it is not). Subdolus has better luck and hits with his skimitar across the beasts flank for 9. Zargon charges to the defense of the Yellow Wizard and attacking twice. He hits once for 13 total. Keeping the dispalcer beasts between himself and the fighters, Sogathan heals Cadellin for 5.
Initiative: 5, 5. Simo. Suddenly the wizard is surrounded by 3 other versions of himself causing great confusion to the beast on him.
The remaining 3 displacer beasts suddenly break attack, Tiberious hits twice with his magical axes, this time for 21 total, and his is finished off with a swing from Zargons blade which nearly cuts it in half. The one left in the room with the puddle stoops to pick up the ring in its mouth but is run threw by Ermanaric dropping it, Calhagan and Fletcher (both miss). The one that was on Cadellin jumps away from the wizard Subdolus just misses. It reaches the ring, snatches it in its teeth and heads down the stairs at lightning speed. Sog thows his mace at it but misses widely.
Cadellin is left to go before the creature is out of site and down the stairs (in the direction the giant crickets went) unless you choose to follow it. Once Cadellin goes, I'll role initiative.

I think that calls for a bouncing lightning bolt zigzagging across the thing a few times.
Cadellin pulls his wand from his belt and blasts it.

The displacer beast disappears down the stairway, but is blasted with the rebounding lightning several times. When the fighters look to see they find the beast torn open and sizzling. THe ring still in its teeth. The stair way has blast marks but wasn't too badly damaged.
What does the group wish to do now? 5 dead displacer beasts lie about the passage, room and stairs.
Do you take the ring? And do you wish to heal up before continuing (you can go left down a passage or right down the stairs).

The thief brings the ring to the two spell casters. Sog quickly identifies it as a clerical ring of ancient origin. It does not detect as evil, and the skeletal image no longer appears within. He believes it may help in controlling the undead. He asks the others if they mind if he puts it on. Cadellin believes the ring to be the product of a spell caster who dabbled in both magic and occultism.

Sogathan has Subdolus link his rope around him loosely while he puts on the ring, incase of possession. If he starts acting strange he is to tighten the rope. Luckily nothing happens the ring does not seem to be cursed in any way.
Nothing else is found here. Which direction does the group go (the hall or down the stairs)
