Though the party is low on oil, the wisky of the Onocentuar is found to be flamable (being the strongest of brew). Combinig normal oil scrap wood and a few barrels of wisky the thick curtain of black ivy vines is burnt away revealing faint daylight from the other side. Subdolus investigates first with the monk and Fletcher (who notes many giant sized hooved prints in the soil leading due east). The prints cross a round room before you (at least 40 feet across). Covering the walls of this room are more thick black vines of the sort you burnt away reaching upward for 30 feet and beyond, as they become obscured by vines and vegitation dangling down from some place further up (likely a ceiling you suspect to be 100s of feet high by. Like an enormous chimney filled with deformed and ancient vines, you suspect if you climbed high enough you would reach daylight and the outside (perhaps the apex of the mountain itself). The temperature of this room is a steady 80 degrees, suggesting geothermic heat (as the ground is warm to the touch). There is also a slight sulfery smell about this place. Their are noises of things moving about high up (on occasion) and the chirps of sweeps and the movement of other animals. Still the place feels unatural in general, wholey disturbing.
The black and purple vines that fall to the ground from high above could be climbed. And a trail that leads to the opposite wall (made by the onocentuar) could be investigated. You could search this room as well. Prints of the onocentuar reach all around the room.

"Can anyone tell if the hoof prints are recent? If so, then it's likely that the vegetation is not immediately harmful. Either that, or the hooved beast had influence over the unwholesome-appearing vines."
OOC: Axe, is there any upward draft in this chimney-like enclosure?

A bit of a draft does rise up (probably from the heat). The hoof prints belong to the onocentuar Fletcher is certain its only the one individual (and probably made the day it was killed).
You also notice droplets of water dripping down from the vegitation above (almost like a light rain above a forest canopy making its way down to the forest floor).
So how do you wish to investigate?

Calhagn's first inclination is to try and burn up all the vegetation and let the chimney do its thing. Of course, if there's anything useful to the group, and flammable, then that could be kissed good-bye. Calhagn shrugs and offers that he'd be willing to take that risk.
If we investigate the around the perimeter of the room, then we should mindful of getting back to the doorway quickly .. just in case gods-know-what.

Fletcher thinks its unlikely to work, given the wet state. he thinks you might be able to burn up to 10 feet.
The group uses five large barrels of wisky to attempt to get the ivey to burn, but it doesn't do more than burn the leaves of the bottom 8 feet of a 5 x 10 foot section of vines. at times like this you wish you had magical fire, now that might work.
What do you wish to do next.

Zargon shines his Gem of Brightness (no charges) up into the dark vines above, searching for any nastiness that may be up there trying to surprise the party.

About 30 feet up Zargon spots at least 2 dark shapes (about the size of a kolbold) moving away from the light and jumping into thicker clumps of vegitation to hide, you can also just make out the outlines of a large primitive platform of thick woven wood hanging from vines about 70 feet up hidden in the foilage, its about center of the room, and appears to be 20 feet in diameter more or less. You can only see the bottom. On close inspection of the vines dangling just above your head, Fletcher notices that several have been climbed regularly and probably fairly recently (indicated by the removal of leaves and polishing of the bark vine at natural handhold positions. A fighter would need to remove his heavy armor to climb such a vine.

Calhagn isn't ready to shrug off his armor just yet, but offers to give cover-fire, with his bow, to willing climbers.

Tiberious will use his ring and cloak and volunteer to try to quietly as possible climb up to the platform structure.
He will try to climb in such a way as to give the fighter a clear shot with bows and arrows to any attacking foes.

The agile monk slowly moves upward 30 feet (MS 30) when suddenly something well hidden (almost invisible) strikes out. 2 large powerful insectoid arms reach out toward the invisible Tiberious hitting (with a 19) and pull him in. Before the party can act the creature recoils into a mess of thick vines with the monk.
**Tiberious is held fast and is bitten for 8 pts of damage by a giant prey Mantis (that was hanging upside down near the vine he was on). The mantis likes what it tastes and prepares to bite next round. The only one capable of climbing to help (without taking off armor) is Fletcher (having practised enough as a ranger) and Subdolus. The rest will have to remove some armor. You can also attempt to use your bows, but will recieve a -4 due to the high amount of vegitation their shots will have to avoid. Sog might try a spell.

Subdolus takes to the vines to assist the ensnared monk.
OOC: Who has the "fly" potion?

What about Fletcher (do you want to climb up or use your bow), also does Sog wish to cast any sort of spell at the creature? The surprise round is over and you won initiative.
The Half Orc cleric with the group steps back in fear of impending attack.

Tiberious will, if possible, try to strike with headbutt or kick/fist stike.
If possible, Tiberious will clench magic dagger or axe (should be near enough to his waist if both arms pinned) and try to create as bright a magic light from said weapons as possible to help the group locate him in the vines.
He also screams out to help in locating him.

OOC: Axe, roughly how long to slough off a mail hauberk?

I'd imagine 1 round to get out of enough stuff to climb a rope.
