I think the Extended Editions are so far superior to the 'theatrical releases' that they should be considered the only versions to have ever existed. They should have been released in the theaters, not the dumbed-down, chopped-up theatrical versions. Trust the public for once. And if they don't get it, then screw 'em! Obviously they don't deserve it. Put an intermission in the middle of the movie like back in the day. People can take a leak, stretch their legs, get more junk food, whatever. It would have been really classy.
Am I right?

Yes of course, I suspect this may have had to do with the theaters squeezing one more showing in...or to sell the same DVD twice. Bastards.

Honestly, I didn't find the extended editions to be all that superior to the theatrical releases. Fellowship was slightly better (I liked the scene with the Elves travelling through the Shire), but in TTT and RotK, the extended editions were mostly just excuses for PJ to include more extraneous stuff that wasn't in the story in the first place. Some of the extended stuff in TTT is more Arwen crap that shouldn't be part of the f**king story at all. As far as having the extended editions as theatrical releases, I was so pissed off by halfway through RotK in the theater that I'm pretty sure another 30-45 minutes would have seen me pouring the rest of my $7 Coke over the head of the 14 year old girl sitting in front of me who couldn't shut the F**K UP about how CUUUUUTE!!!1! Legolas looked.

Sorry, not really turned on by the Harriet the Spy/Hermione Granger crowd. Liv Tyler, on the other hand is teh HOT!!! So you can see, it's not that I have anything against Arwen, it's just that PJ should have done a completely different film entitled "Bilbo Bag'em and the Babes of Middle Earth" and left the chick-stuff out of LotR. ;D
