Okay homies, here it is. The first post, the first thread, the first poll. And the first of probably many LotR movies posts. For those who have seen the Extended Editions, which of the three movies is your favorite?

Funny you should ask, I'm half way through Return just taking a break from it for a sec. I'll let you know in 3 hours and 13 minutes.

And while we're at it I'll make another poll.

I have only watched about 20 minutes of RotK before I fell asleep. I will let you know after I can stay awake tonight. I will say I am just happy and entertaqined watching FotR from the point they leave Rivendell until they reach Lothlorien.

Little over 10 hours, right? Sounds cool. Like the ultimate gaming session when a bunch of people don't show up.
What kind of home theater setup do you have Mr. E?

Nothing fancy i'm afraid. Tv's pretty big, but standard. I wanted to bring some booze and order out for italian food, but my dad dosen't want to give beer to my brother if he comes (even though he' s been drinking for years now. )

I'm watching the attack at Helms Deep on the cartoon LOTR version made some time in the late 70s. It actually seems to be more accurate then the PJ versions in some ways.

But..but... what about the elves fighting at Helm's Deep or the tossing of Gimli across the moat, or Legolas surfing down the stairs? You mean that is not accurate?

But..but... what about the elves fighting at Helm's Deep or the tossing of Gimli across the moat, or Legolas surfing down the stairs? You mean that is not accurate? Ouch! With each additional piece of information it sounds more and more like my decision to forgo seeing the 2nd and 3rd LOTR movies was a wise one. In other news, how are the Harry Potter movies? I've just finished reading the first 3 books and enjoyed them immensely and am curious if the movies are worth seeing. The first two are directed by Chris Columbus, who's a total faceless hack (he directed "Home Alone" and "Mrs. Doubtfire"), so I don't expect anything non-pedestrian there, but the 3rd one was by Alfonso Cuaron, who's made at least one previous good movie (not "Y Tu Mama Tambien" which was overrated and pretentious arthouse schlock, but rather "A Little Princess") so that could actually potentially be good. Is it?

I liked Sorcerer's Stone very much. Didn't care for Chamber' at all. Prisoner' was good as a movie but the book was tons better as far as the story and character involvement goes.

I'd agree with WSmith. Sorcerer's Stone was quite good, Chamber sucked and Prisoner was above average.

AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
The last guy was a freakin' nut. THe Pris. sucked! Put it this way T.Foster, my daughter and most in her class read these books (from 4-5th grade); they all sat through the first two movies (3 hours) without getting up once to use the restroom. The kids loved them and clapped at the end. The kids then wanted to see the movie over and over again, and when it came out on video most of the kids I know watched it over and over.
The Prisioner of Az. was a flop as far as these same kids thought. The "buzz" in 5th grade was that it wasn't good, and most saw it once or not at all. No one wants the DVD.
Another good indication is that Cristopher Col. got nuked by the critics, while the second guy got praised. I think if your looking for an art flick none of these will satisfy you. However, if your looking for something that captures the spirit of the books the first two will fit that bill.
In either case, I would suggest not seeing any of the movies if they will destroy your picture of the characters and settings in your head.

Hmm, I'm not so sure how my taste in movies lines up with those of the average 5th grader (what do most 5th graders think of Fritz Lang and Howard Hawks?). I think maybe the last bit of advice is the best. It's not like I'm desperate for movies to watch -- I just got a boxed set of 9 Alfred Hitchthingy movies for XMas, most of which I've never seen before! EDIT: He he! Looks like Hitch got caught by a profanity filter!

Foster: "Hmm, I'm not so sure how my taste in movies lines up with those of the average 5th grader"
Well........at least you and the 5th graders have the same taste in books. Why should you think your taste in movies would differ that much from theirs'. I remember liking many great movies as a young child right along with the adults (as I'm sure you do as well). Never under estimate the maturity of a child in taste and most things. Infact, most people are pretty much the same from the time there 10 till they die. Kids are adults trapped in kids bodies.....Usually idiot kids grow up into idiot adults, nice kids grow up to be nice adults, etc.....but then you already new that.
Now, as for your more specific tastes, I suppose that comes with exposure over time and a certain amount of understanding, not unlike developing a taste for modern abstract art, jazz, and unusual food. Still everyone likes a cheese burger and fries...some things are more universal then others.
BTW I'm in the middle of Colateral, it's good to see Tom Cruise in a tolerable role. The last good movie he was in before this was Legend (he's only been in 3 other good movies: Risky Business, Loosing it, and...Legend). If you watch this I don't think you'll be disappointed.
