The left passage continues in a southeastern direction for 30 feet. There seems to be a chamber at the end. There is also another passageway that branches off due east.

I’m going to move things ahead, based on Gorthak’s instructions.
The tunnel that branches to the east only goes for another 30 feet until coming to an end. It appears to be a natural section of the caverns that was never worked.
The group continues following the left wall. They enter the open chamber at the end. The chamber is about 20 x 30 feet, furnished with a small table, benches and two barrels. Occupying the room are 6 small (4’) yellow skinned goblins.
Per the battle plans, the front rank charges the goblins, in turn they respond with a volley of spears. Rendolf is struck twice for 6 points of damage total. Rendolf kills one of the goblins in retribution. Krago and Rendolf are now in melee with two of the goblins. The remaining three are preparing to enter melee as well. Gorthack and Gerto enter the chamber, positioning themselves so they can heal or fight next round.
The rest of the party moves to the end of the tunnel, preparing to enter the chamber if need be. The mercenaries watching the rear shout in alarm, 6 goblins have just entered the tunnel. They are 15’ from the mercenaries.
Post intent for round 2.

Trusting Melora and Finrod to take control of the mercenaries and hold off the goblins to the rear, Gorthakh will move into position to cast a cure light wounds on Rendolf.

Seeing Gorthakh moving in to heal Rendolf, Gerto advances to attack a goblin and support the front rank.

Darian will attempt to position himself so he can throw two daggers at the goblins which have attacked from the rear at the same time commandingthe mercenaries to attack.
Since we are definately taller than the goblins, Darian will try to hit the goblin furthest away in an attempt to take out any goblin that may run for help. If Darian notices a goblin with an oil flask he will then aim both daggers at that creature.

OOC: If Krago does not have his shield readied then he will do that. If he can attack after equiping his shield then he will. If he does have his shield readied then he will attack the goblin that is on him. Attacks are at an additional +1 since they are goblins.

I order the mercs to throw their first spears and then prepare for melee (second spears set if the goblins are charging). The mercs are (hopefully) lined up 3 abreast in the first rank (i.e. last rank -- towards the goblins), 2 more in the second rank fighting with spears (if possible). If the mercs' morale breaks I have my sleep spell ready to drop on the goblins.

Standing behind the mercs Finrod cheers them on, "finally some action boys"! If he can throw a dagger or 2 without hitting a merc he will do so. Otherwise he prepares for filling in if one falls. He also makes sure dog is ready to attack if need be.

The goblins in the chamber rush with their spears forward in an attempt to keep the party from pushing them back. In the ensuing chaos, Rendolf is stabbed twice for 6 points of damage total. Rendold lands a return blow for 4 points of damage, but it is not enough to kill this time. Gerto and Krago are still struggling to find their marks. Gorthak’s cure spell removes 7 points of damage from the much wounded Rendolf.
Making use of their small size, the goblins launch a volley of 6 spears at the mercenaries. Two are seriously wounded in the exchange, but manage to return fire. In the cramped space, the mercenaries can only manage to throw 3 spears, but they succeed in killing a goblin and wounding another one. Finrod and Darian are not able to get a clear shot in.

I order the two wounded mercs to fall back to the second rank and let their fresh brethren take their spots if possible (i.e. if they can do so without drawing free attacks from the goblins). I've still got my sleep spell ready if necessary, and am keeping an eye out in case any of the goblins begin to flee or any more come down the hall.

Infuriated as his combat ineptness, Krago furiously launches forth another assault at the goblin locked in melee with him.
OOC: Um . . . I attack.

OOC How much room exists above the heads of the mercs? Could a lit oil bomb be tossed by SKA toward the back of the Goblin group without (reasonably) risking hitting the tunnel ceiling above our guys?
Finrod switches to shield and scimitar prepared to attack as soon as the way is clear.

Gerto thinks about healing Rendolf, but hears Gorthakh's chant of healing, and instead continues the struggle with the goblin in front of him.
