Gerto's plan works, the party manages to avoid any encounters for the first day. Post your plans for approaching and exploing the caves, including a marching order.

Gerto quickly asks, "Are we going to return to the Ogre cave to finish exploring, or are we attempting to find the Orc cave, assuming we've killed some of their numbers?" Gerto mumbles under his breath, thinking aloud, wishing Rendolf was still with them to apply his tracking skills.

Gorthakh volunteers to be first one into the cave (he's carrying his spear and shield, and VERY ready to run, but he's the logical one to go in because he has infravision, can take a couple of hits, and stands the best chance in talking to any ogres we meet).
The idea is that the thieves will come with Gorthakh and check the entrance for traps while the rest of the party waits a safe distance away. Gorthakh then goes in as the thieves retreat back to the rest of the party; if he runs out again with monsters in pursuit, the party's ready to ambush the monsters with a hail of missiles.
Gorthakh won't go far in. He'll just go deep enough into the darkness to activate his infravision, and then look around.

Actually Krago will stay up front with Gorthakh. He has infravision as well and with his AC bonus against ogres, he'll have a decent AC. So he'll equip shield and sword and stay about 10 feet behind the half-orc. OOC: We really need to hit the jackpot here fellas, or we'll all be in the stables earning our keep.

Gerto nods to the plan set above, allowing Gorthakh and Krago to lead a peek into the previosuly visited Ogre Cave. The rest of the party will stay near the lip of the ravine looking to as to cover the cave.

Once inside the cave, we should take up a plan similiar to our first foray into the Ogre lair.
First, the party lights the lamp but close the shutter such that it lets out a minimum of light - just enough for the humans to follow us, not enough to alert any monsters. We'll need more light when the fighting comes, but not yet.
The mercenaries should go to the rear of the group, to guard against any creature which might come at us from behind. Gorthak and Krago, Gerto and Sydney, the two acolytes, Finrod and Darien will form the party's front rank. If we can get three across instead of two, add one acolyte to each of the front two ranks. If we want to explore more carefully, we can move Darien closer to the front, or just rely on Krago to do the rogue activities.
Since these monsters will probably be more alert than our last journey, the lamp should be readied to be opened soon as an encounter occurs.
Does this sound good to the rest of the party, assuming we make it into the cave? Also, if we get injured before we enter, we'll assign new ranks.
EDIT: SInce we can fit 3 to a rank, here's a quick diagram.
Krago Gorthakh Acolyte1 Sydney Gerto Acolyte2 Finrod Darien Merc 1 Merc 2 Merc 3

Having three to a rank once you get inside the cave is easy.
The scouts find nothing dangerous, so the party progresses. It would seem that the cave has been throughly searched since your last delve.
The secret door is closed.

Im confused. Im certain there was a four way intersection in this cave, and we didn't explore all possiblities. Are you saying we've seen the entire cave and found it all to have been ransacked? Or we've just return to the place where we fought the Ogre and more remains to be explored?

Ok. The four way intersection is where you entered the goblin caves. In the room where you fought the ogre, the group found a secret door that led to another cave. (that's where the group found the scroll and the sacks of gold). Most of the group left through that exit instead of returning the way they came. I assumed the latter is what you meant by ogre cave.
Do you want to enter through the intersection instead?

Ah, ok. I understand. Gerto keeps away from the secret door and asks in a whisper,"Do we want to continue into the goblin caves now? Or try a new cave?"
