Ermanaric, the sword does not belong to the fighter but rather comes from the White Dragons hoard (before you arrived the group killed one). From that thread: osu.proboards40.com/index.cgi?board=axe&action=display&thread=1169004597&page=7"The long sword is washed down with water and cleaned by Subdolus. It is "Delriux", a human made ornamental sword by its looks. It is a plus 1, but communicates to Subdolus that it must be given to a knight with LG alignment as soon as possible. If anyone in the group uses it it will act as +1 only. You assume its more powerful then that though (in the right hands)."

Emeranic's party had split apart during the blizzard and white out, when gigantic birds attacked from above and the horses bolted. his group agreed to meet up if they were split at the top of the mountain, apparently he was attempting just that when ambushed and killed by the beasts. Calhagn is having an existential crises, because that sounds remarkably like his recent past.

Whoops! Sorry, thats Calhagn recognizes the remains of the fallen fighter as one of his former party who had split off when the group had been attacked. (Emeranic had followed this party with the monk Zoodoof Cain, in hopes of cetching up with Captain Krodos, who was a member of it. They had arrived after the blizzard) When the party realizes who this dead man is (that was slane by the yeti) they share with Cal his belongings, and offer their sincere condolenses, Sog assists in the barriel rights. Ruinbottle sings a short halfling hym in his honor, something about brave knights passing into the stars to burn for eternity. Emeranic realizes at this point that Calhagn must have been in the party he was following, the same one that Captain Krodos (his former captain and friend) was in. Emeranic asks Calhagn about Krodos and his wear abouts. Calhagn informs Emeranic (I assume) that Krodos survived up until the storm hit and the group was attacked by giant birds. At that point, the party split up. Cal indicates he had hoped Krodos and the others would eventually meet up at the top of the mountain, but fears no one else made it. Cal informs Em that Captain Krodos was a fine swordsman and that if anyone could have made it he could have (making the most hopeful face as possible after his news seemed to dishearten the fighter). The group eats a somber meal after burying the body. After an hour or so, Smythus calls everyone together waving his arms. "So my friends, now that we have all gotten aquanted and understand the mission we are on ...I suggest we push on! Let us make our way to the boat we found on that undergound beach and explore the river. We must not return to Grime without the prince, and I greatly wish to get the princess back as to the safety of her father where, together, he and I may figure out how to remove the princess from this cursed crystal prison! " What do you wish to say or do?

"Hey, saving a prince! Can't turn that kind of reward down, huh, boss?" asks Zargon. "And, we still get you to Grime, which is where you wanted to go, anyway!" Zargon sees this whole chance meeting as one big upside... except for the cold, that is.

OOC: Zargon, check your PM. The gnome looks up at you and smiles, yes, I think we should stay as well for the reward. Lets hope we can trust this bunch.

Subdolus approaches the Yellow Wizard so that his harem boy won't hear, "Perhaps it would be a good time to introduce your new friend to your old friend in the muck. I really don't like the idea of him going with us."
After the matter of what to do with the monk is settled Subdolus is all for finally heading down river.

Calhagn pulls the amiable Ruinbottle aside, and asks him for a concise synopsis, well, as concise as the halfling can manage anyway, of what his group has discovered and encountered around this keep.
OOC: Axe, I'm trying to figure out Cal's next course(s) of action. Also, is this keep at the top of the mountain, or near it?

"Ahh, many terrible things thats what Calhagn!" Just inside the mountain we found the hall of the Frost Giant king and his hill giant guard. Those fellows we disposed of. Then behind that an escape route that led to a boat, and troll guards whom we also killed. When we came upon them trolls they were eatn' some kind of fish men, pluck'n'im out of the water and stuffn'im in their mouths. So we rescued them creatures."
The halfling rubs his chin some more.
"Ahhh, then after that we found the entrance to the keep. Down here on the first floor we didn't encounter no monsters. But when we went up the spiral stair case we were attacked by some kind of creature with tenticals living inside a huge pile of giant dung at the center of it! Mr. Cadellin and myself fell into the giant offal pile and managed to escape. After that we killed a frots giant smith working on a great kiln, and 2 frost giant children, more giants and huge white wolves. Mr. Tiberious was bitten and poisoned by a giant Gecko and carried to the roof out a chimney and then into a den of baby geckos. We stopped them just before they ripped the poor monk into pieces. After that we found and killed the Frost Giantess queen and her body guard. And then we went down a tunnel and were almost crushed in a hallway with a cieling that came down. Luckily we had a potion that turned us into gas and could float out of it. Then we encountered the Master of the Yellow Tounge's a powerful monk who killed our ranger and last fighter. Then we killed his female concubine students, and found within the giantess queens chamber a monster that attacks your mind. It escaped but almost killed Sogathan in the process. We think it went up ot the roof.
Oh, and also along the way we dealt with an Annis witch. And then we camped out in a hidden dungeon below the kitchen. Its been a hard faught battle, and it seems we still have a ways to go to finish our mission. "
-No, this is the top of the mountain. ALthough there's another 600 feet of granite cliffs looming above the keep it can't be climbed (or would be near impossible). Anyone going to get to the top would have to stop here.

Looking about, Calhagn asks Ruinbottle, conversationally, "So, other than trudging down the mountain, the river is the only way out of here?"

"Thats right sir, and that boat makes me think the river might be a real option if it came to it. Course, I have no idea where it leads or how safe the ride would be. That giant king would've had to lay down completely in that boat to make it through the ice cave the river leads into as it goes down the glacier slope. Then of course there is the other side of the mountain to the west....the way Mr. Miles and his body guard Zargon came. Though Miles has informed me that that route is not safe. There are giants that way, and the town we can see at night at its base is overrun with orc and the like. Of course, there might be human slaves". Ruinbottle pauses for a moment and scratches his head: "Also, on the way up here from Grime we passed a cabin and small mine high up in the foothills occupide by dwarves and a girl we didn't see. We think them dwarves to be an evil sort though."

Tiberious states the following: "Alright, let's get this show on the road or as master Q'jan-jan used to say " The falling pebble always knows its way."
Outside the hearing of the Yellow Tongue monk Tiberious will make sure the new fighters and the rest of the group are aware if the wizard is killed we will have an evil monk to deal with.
Of course, the new monk should make an excellent scout/ trap detector/ and wizard massage therapist.

Cadellin is so disguested by the slimey charmed monk he's flabergasted and fails to respond to Subdolus's request. Instead Tiberious directs the monk to the front (after a short outburst of objections from the slimey bald fellow who prefers to stay close to his master). The journey back proves interesting with 8 freshly killed orc bodies in the hall outside the kitchen. Large bite marks and huge chunks of flesh missing. Besides some strange noises (like rocks falling) and smells of something fowl in that general area, nothing is encountered and the scouts masterfully guide the group through the dungeon (Cain in the lead). MAP: img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/AxeMental/DungeonMap15-1.jpgThe group returns to the cavern with the boat RM 22 (where a few days back they had rescued the old men trapped on the beach across the way). The boat is where you left it dragged up on the beach. The new members of the party are amazed that this river exists so high up on the mountain. Also the underground dungeon seems much warmer then outside (well above freezing). Cadellin theorizes the river is the result of geothermic heat melting the glacial ice near the peak and this melt is falling back into the caverns forming this slightly bluish chalky river. In any event the river is about 30 feet across your not sure how deep. It meanders gradually downward in a natural cavern 15-30 feet high which narrows up ahead. The heavy oaken boat will hold the party, what order will you go in. And who will navigate? Also are any precautions taken (do you wear your plate for instance, do you want to tie in etc.)? Cain examines the boat for traps and says he's detected something odd (rolling a 1-6). hidden among some old scraps of cloth and wood is a rope, one side attached to the boat the other end leads into a 3x4 foot burlap sack and something is in it. He wants to know what to do.

Ermanaric suggests using his sword to prod it a little before opening it.

Ermanaric moves to the boat and the weasely monk gladly retreats back to a safe distance.
Ermanaric prods the bag and detects that the rope is attached to something. Infact, moving the bag suddenly emmits a small amount of bright light from the bag. The hidden object within the bag seems to weigh about 15 pds and is the rough shape of a large melon. Do you want to dump the object, or pull the rope to reveal what it is attached to?
EDIT -To save time I'll assume you send the monk forward to do this. The monk lifts the bag and dumps out the contents into the boat. What he finds is a rope about 8 feet long one end secured to the side of the boat the other tied fast around the neck of a broken off alibaster statues head (it looks to be of a bearded human or dwarf) which has had a continual light spell cast upon it (though brighter then most).
Subdolus examins the statue head and finds it to be covered in a thin layer of slimey algea (the kind you find on a rock submerged in a stream) as is the rope it is attached to for the first 4 feet. Other then that both the rope and statue head seem unremarkable. Sub believes the rope and bag could have been their the first time you used the boat, and were simply missed in the search (the boats bottom being obscured with garbage of all sorts).
Cain looks back at Cadellin "what does this mean mazzzztaaa"?

"I would put it back in the sack for now, but don't touch it. Cadellin, does your "friendly" monk recognize the fungus, he seems knowlegable of such things."
"If not I would keep it sacked and in the boat, it is probably for light or to be used as an anchor."
