The rope is too short for this to be used as an anchor you think, though a light is likely.

Tiberious states "Perhpas the lighted statute is used as a signal when travelling over a certain area. Perhaps it tells something not to attack?"
OOC: Cadellin, I only made suggestions and are in no way trying to order about your special freind! I assume you were ok with the above, if not please let Axe know!

"If noone objects I say we pile in and get underway. I will sit in the front so my vision can aid us and ruinbottle should be in the back watching our rear. The yellow monk can sit at the wizards side in the middle of the boat and the rest of the party can spread out as they fit. I also feel that we may want to drag the glowing statue head in the water behind us once we get going. I can't think of any reason for it to be tied to the boat unless it involves being in the water."

OK I assume the group piles in (and the fighters keep their armor on). This is how I have the group set up:
Bow
Sub Tib Em Smy Sog Zargon Cain Cadl Ruin Miles Calhagn
Stern
The boat is pushed out and everyon jumps on board. Subdolus lowers the statue head on the rope into the water lighting the water up in a 30 foot area like a giant aquarium. As you get underway you see the depth quickly increases, the rocky bottom being about 6 fathoms (36 ft) below. As you watch the many fish and crab swim about around the light you are suddenly alarmed when you pass over many humanoid forms ( over 2 dozen) moving about in the clear chilly water, after a moment the clerics identify them as ghouls, zombies, skeletons, and perhaps ghasts and shadows. Luckily they run from the light of the stone as if it pains them, hiding behind rocks, and strange brown tuffs of aquatic fungi which flow independently of the current as if alive.
The group paddels the vessel forward toward the direction it flows (the water comes out of a wall that cant be gotten through up river about 50 feet. You would need to swim to get into it). You travel about 150 feet down stream, your torch light alluminates a high natural cavern 20 feet high and 20 to 15 feet wide. You hear rapids coming up and Calhagn grabs tight the tiller in antisipation. Luckily with the stone below you the group avoids some sharp looking rocks just below the surface and manages to clear the first series without a problem. The depth seems to be at least 20 feet here. As you continue another 200 feet up the river you see white-ish rocks jutting from the water to the left. As you pass you see that they are infact the giant fingers of a humongus Stone Golemn cut in the effigi of posidon standing 15 feet tall, its arms upstretched. The lighted stone seems to summon the thing to come closer (which proves un-nerving to the group) walking with steady thud. It reaches your boat and lifts it up out of the water effortlessly. At first you fear an attack but see its done with great care. It carries the dory within its huge hands above its head...slowly another 30 feet up ahead and deposits your boat inside a large tunnel entrance 15 feet above the surface of the water on the south wall. (map forthcoming)
The stone statue then leaves your group (returning to its former position) and your boat sitting on dry ground (overlooking the river 15 feet below) in a wide hallway. The stone hanging off the rope alluminates the hall which seems to get colder up ahead, and iccicles can be seen hanging down from the cieling almost like prison bars. Behind these you see something moving and coming your way. They appear humaoid but black with reptilian like skin and hair, and glowing red eyes and folded back wings.
You are all still in shock sitting in the boat when you see this. What would you like to do?

Tiberious, invisible, will get out of the boat and move to the side, hiding as best as possible behind an object in case these creatures have some other means of detection.
Tiberious will make sure to stay outof the path of any possible spell or magic weapon that might be used (as he might be hit being invisible) .
He will also look to see if the creatures have armour or weapons.

Zargon readies this new spiffy magic sword that the group gave him, but also keeps one hand near his Gem of Brightness in case he needs to zap one of these things. He also steps out of the boat to give himself room to move.

Ruinbottle likewise jumps out of the boat and hides behind it awaiting a chance to backstab. Smythus starts casting a spell, and Miles *the gnome* throws back his cloak and casts color spray at the approaching creatures. Suddenly the hall lights up in a rainbow of color (illuminating over a dozen of these approaching creatures coming out of the shadows, each with its own horrid destinctions like horns, barbs, purple or black skin and the like ). 4 of the strange creatures grab their eyes and then drop to the ground motionless.
Does Cadellin wish to cast a spell?

Yes! Guess which one. (Slow owns) Cadellin then asks his friend for help in the battle.

"Nice one, boss! Hey! Watch this!" Zargon steps out and, making sure not to hit any of his new allies, zaps the creatures with his Gem.
OOC: Expending five charges - 30' long cone, 10' diameter at the end - all creatures in the affected area must save vs. magic or be blinded for 1-4 rounds and thereafter suffer a penalty of -1 to -4 on hit probability dice rolls due to permanent eye damage.

Cadellin lifts his arms and directs his slow spell at a cluster of the beasts, 6 suddenly begin moving in a slow motion of sorts. Zargon removes a large unpolished gem from a secure pocket and holds it forth emmiting a bright beam of light which lasts for only a moment but which alluminates even farther down the hall where more shapes can be seen running in your direction. The beam hits 3/4ths of the creatures in its range (from the looks of it blinding all of those slowed as well as 6 others. And then there are 4 on the ground who were in range but are not effected as they are "out" for the moment. 6 more, however, avoid the unslaught of magic and rush into range of the party, those blinded monsters also approach more cautiously (I'll assume the fighters are preparing to use swords and Sog is hanging back prepared to use his staff (also Smythus gets off a curse on the monsters reducing their to hit and saves). Initiative is rolled: group roles a 5 monsters a 6! I'll have to run this attack sequence and get back wit-chu.

The groups initial magical attack proved devistating to the unslaught slowing it down greatly. You can see in the thorny hands of some tethers whips and binding rope, as if they had been expecting prisoners (or to take some perhaps).
The beast begin to squeel, grunt and communicate to one another in some horrid language.
You lost init.
The 6 that were uneffected by the 3 magic attacks fly or hop over the others beating great leathery wings like slow bats, while the blinded ones move ahead on foot relying on smell or sound (or perhaps are being given directions as well) to attack. Those 6 that are slowed effectively block those behind them on foot as well.
This is the setup as I have it.
Ruinbottle Subdolus (behind boat hiding to backstab) ----------------------------------------------- Smythus Cain Cadellin Miles (inside boat) Tiberious (to side) ----------------------------------------------- Sogathan Zargon Emeranic Calhagan (infront of boat)
2 of the uneff. creatures (whom Sog now identifies as Gargoyl) fly over the fighters and toward Cadellin in his yellow wizard robes, one is blocked by the monk Cain who is quickly bitten and ripped into for 8 pts. while Cadellin is attacked by the second, torn into for 7 pts of damage.
Likewise, another passes over the fighters and attacks Miles doing 3 pts to him. Sog has one attack as well biting and tearing him for 5.
The fighters in the front form a wall to block the main attack: 2 uneffected attack Zargon, together inflicting 7 pts. bringing you to 44. 3 more blinded ones manage to make it to the fighters in front. 2 go toward Calhagan; despite their being blind inflict 5 pts damage. And the last attacks Emeranic scratching his shoulder for only 1 pt.
COUNTER ATTACK:
The group of blinded and slowed creatures will be on you next round, as will those behind them. All together there appears to be about 21 of these beasts.
Ruinbottle manages to MS and HIS and backstabs a gargoyl on Cadellin with his magical shortsword for 12 pts. Cain attacks the one on him with a powerful kick. He roles a natural 19 and stuns the creature which falls in a heap and staggers away! (Tiberious can't help but be somewhat impressed). Smythus takes out a glowing mace and hits the same one damaged by the monk for 7 more.
Miles looks in utter amazement at his companion Zargon "full of surprises"! After being hit, the gnome recovers and pulls out a vile which he throws at the 12 still in the hallway (6 blinded and slowed, and 6 more color sprayed). The vile breaks open against the wall and explodes in a violent puff of deep purple gas which covers that area of the hall. When the gas clears you see all those still standing grabbing their throats coughing and unable to fight). Some shapes behind them hold back as well, not wanting to enter that area.
I'll assume the fighters attack with their weapons (as they have monsters ontop of them): Zargon uses his new LG long sword which glows bright star blue and slices deeply into the one on him for 9. Emeranic raises his magical sword and swings down with amazing force (given his 18+ str), hitting for 9 also. Calhagan uses his bastard sword which also glows brightly and hits his doing 11. Sog throws down his staff and orders it to attack his foe. The staff suddenly turns into a large constrictor snake and attacks. It hits with an 18 and entraps it within its coils squeezing its life out.
What would Cadellin, Tiberious, and Subdolus like to do. Both Tiberious and Sub are undetected as of yet.

Cadellin, who is wearing a ring of swimming, dives into the water so as to escape further attacks by gargoyles (another attack like that could finish the mage).
He immediately dives deep under the water, hoping to resurface at a distance and make further magical attacks once at a safe range.

Calhagn will continue to engage the foe that he struck last round.
OOC: Axe, in your games, can players choose which foe(s) within range that they attack, or do they randomly attack any foe within 10'? Also, I do not have my character sheet with me ATM, so I don't recall if Cal is 7th lvl. If he is, and if he can choose, then it's 2 attacks against the same foe he struck previously.

OOC: TRP, you can select whomever you wish to strike as long as you can get into range, as long as your not effectively blocked. Also if you go away from a battle with one to engage another it might result in a free attack from the monster. So yeah, no problem to keep on the one your hitting (or turn to help another person or even gang up on one with another PC if you wish).
Subdolus unrolls the large scroll written in a strange tounge and begins reading it, you role a 14% RL and the scroll seems to work as you feel it getting suddenly very cold and the continual light starts to get darker....somethings coming.
Cadellin realizing he's being rushed turns and dives into the icey water 15 feet below. The Gargoyl on you opts to launch and follow rather then get the free swipe. Cadellin plunges into the pitch black water, his heart fealing as if it might stop from the fridged water. You are surprised by the strong undercurrent here and start getting pulled away from the entrance above. Luckily you are otherwise safe for the moment as you swim down. SKA what willl you do?
