Skirting the edges of luck (and possibly life itself) Calhagn engages the sticky lil' devil for a couple of sword thrusts. The fighter hopes his attacks will quickly put the creature down.

Cal manages to hit once for 5 (his other attack missing); Tiberious takes this round and attempts to recover his magical hand axe (rolling a 5) and fails to do so. Subdolus also fails to do damage (the denzien is quick). Zargon is too weak to do much and starts removing his back pack so he can stand, Sogathan runs up and heals Calhagan for 3, Ermanaric swings and despite his weakened state chops into the beast for 6 pts. damage. Monster counter: The creature looks badly damaged and about to topple, but then it suddenly points at Zargon causing the weakend fighter to lift quickly into the air straight upwards , disappearing into the fog after going up12 feet (Tiberius, Calhagan and Subdolus all fail to stop his ascent (sucktabulas save roles1, 8, 11), Ermanaric is too weak to attempt, Sog too far back) the creature then grins with its huge mouth and turns into mist (Tiberious's magical hand axe still imbedded in the creatures goo transforms into mist as well ) as it heads upward finally disappearing altogether into a gasious form (you can make out movement in the fog however as it heads straight up after the fighter). The party attempts to hit the creature as it fled but alas their weapons miss or pass threw its gaseous state. Let me know what you want to do. Remember there are hand holds on this oddly carved pillar which goes straight up (the thief and monk have plenty of grips besides the carved ladder steps if they wish, esp. Tiberious who might be able to cetch up). After Subdolus, Fletcher would be the next fastest (freshened up with heal spells), followed by Sogathan then Calhagan. Erm can get up but he's feeling very weak. You hear the fighters voice call out as it moves up and away which will help locating him in the mist above.

Fletcher will let Subdolus take the lead, and then follow up after him. He will tell Sog to follow behind him, and then heal him when they reach the top, if possible.

Ermanaric struggles to retain his normal posture but fails, his back suddenly appearing hunched and his breathing strained. "A tactical withdrawal no doubt, one to entice us into another sudden melee. I wonder what enemies await us besides."

OOC: OK I'll assume the party goes along with this plan.
Tiberious goes first (by far the best climber) Subdolus close behind, both searching for traps as quickly as possible (non are found). The party climbes 15 feet reaching the first platform (a stone circlular platform 15 feet in diameter the column passing threw it and continuing up into the mist, a hole just large enough to pass threw leads to this surface and the ladder like hand holds above). This platforms floor is reliefed with carvings of intestine, blackish in color and appearing wet (from the mist your sure). A quick search by the monk reveals nothing, after standing on this platform for 30 seconds, the stone floor begins to move and squirm, as the monk attempts retreat 3 small 1 foot long intestine parts reach out grabbing at his legs begining to pull him to his knees. A quick karate chop and kick and Tiberious breaks free (he jumps back onto the column...shocked but no worse).
Suddenly the column begins to vibrate and the high pitched chanting begins again (now more hurried sounding then before) surely coming from some place above.
After climbing a bit longer you reach the top of the pillar a round platform 30x30 (popping out as before from a hole cut at the base).
At the north end of this platform near its edge is a huge standing stone statue (12 feet tall) of some sort of demon or devil with 2 huge fly like eyes (broken into 100s of smaller eyes like a fly, each is a whitish colored gem) it also has pinchers hanging from long powerful arms, reminding you of a crab. Its legs are wide and thick ending in fat feet that remind you of the base of a cyprus tree. Everyone seeing this horrific statue must save vs. wand or flee in terror (Tiberious fails and refuses to go further, rolling a 3, everyone else saves, Sog helps Ermanaric up as well (now carrying only his weapons and armor due to his lost strength)! At the feet of this statue is a raised dias, and resting upon it an open casket shaking and jumping inches as if something were moving within, also emmitted from the open casket is a redish orange light pulsating (the source of the light you noticed below.
To your horror you see slowly floating toward this casket Zargon (15 feet from you), the creature you battled below has reformed and stands between the casket and the statue raising his arms and chanting...the louder he chants the more the casket and pillar shake, and the brighter the light within the casket becomes. The floor here is also appears carved with a rough bumpy texture like reptile skin.
The chanting denzien seems to be ignoring you, frantically trying to finish its task (whatever that may be). What do you wish to do (only Tiberious is unable to act).

OOC: Any chance I can zap this thing with my Gem of Brightness? If so, Maximum Zappage! ;D

OOC: Is that an automatic hit. If it isn't all of the available fighter types should charge to ensure that someone hits and disrupts the casting.

Ermanaric heals for 15, and Sogathan hits you for another 4 (so your up to 35).
Zargon still hovering toward the casket 8 feet up takes out and fires his blinding Gem at the beast! The beam fires, but it deactivates as the denzien raises a hand at it (obviously some sort of dispel magic)...Zargon continues to drift closer, he now sees a skeletal hand with some flesh still hanging off it grab the side of the box it lays in, a kind of glowing energy almost like a flame around it) something is stirring within and from his vantage point it seems like a man on fire (or hell fire).
The fighters charge Just as they close in on the box, a wave forms on the floor (the stone lifts like a wave 3 feet high (the reptillian skin carvings flex and point out like sharp daggers. Ermanaric keeps his footing as does Calhagan (dropping to there knees). Fletcher stumbles and is thrown backward onto one of these sharp stone (1-4 rolled a 1) reptillian like scales taking 3 pts damage (OOC could have been worse). Subdolus and SOgathan also on this sea or stone manage to avoid falling (crouching down) when the wave hits.
No more large waves this round, but the stone ground moves like a rolling sea (everytime a small wave moves underfoot the sharp scales lift up a bit and then drop, potentially tripping or cutting you) it also reminds you of being a flea or small insect trying to walk on the back of some large reptillian beast that feels you and is trying to shake you off by moving about. Your forward advance is cut to 1/4 as you have to constantly keep your balance. Next round you think you will reach the casket and denzien (hopefully to finish it off).
Does the thief wish to move forward or attack from the back. Also, does Sog wish to cast a spell, or move foward with the fighters (or something else)?
Tiberious is fleeing (having failed to save against fear) and halfway down the column (those eyes those eyes!).
This round the denzien continues casting.

Subdolus secures his footing as much as the surface will permit. He then tosses an end of his rope at Zargon commanding it to tie off on him. He will then attempt to pull the fighter back away from the casket.

By the time Subdolus gets his rope out and throws it toward Zargon, the fighter is just above whatever thing lies in the casket (Subs throw 14) the elvish rope entwines around zargon's legs. At the same moment as subdolus begins to tug back a shrivelled and deficated glowing hand reaches out of the casket and grabs onto Zargons shoulder (to hit role of 12) pulling him toward the casket even while the rest of the creatures body continues to flutter about. The hand has great force and a chilling effect causing 6 pts of damage (Zargon also is paralyzed save role 6).
The fighters and cleric reach the raised dias and casket first, your skin begins to crawl as you approach the dias, something terrifying lies within that wooden box! Just as you get in range to attack you run into an invisible barrier which seems to be generated in a circle around the large statue behind the denzien. The group inflicts 23 pts of damage this round to it smashing at it with their weapons (they feel it giving in).
Initiative: Monsters 4 group 3. The thing in the box raises up at its waist, siluetted in a hellish firey aura is an utterly and totally black skeletal figure, save for silvery white shining from its eye sockets (a very cold and alien light).
The site is so terrifying all who gaze upon it must save vs. death! (you all make it 20,15, 13, 12 for Sog) luckily Subdolus is too far back and his vision is obscured from those infront of him (also Zargon is looking upward and Tiberious is now running out of the chamber). The fish eyed denzien stops it highpitched chanting and looks terrifide and panicked at the groups presence, it charges uneffected by the invisible wall. Fletcher is bit and clawed for 11 pts. damage (but doesn't get stuck to the goo covered creature). Counter attack Fletcher hits with an 18 and does 9 pts of damage, Calhagan also hits removing the beasts arm (for 11 pts. damage) and the beast drops to the ground dead leaking a sickly purple blood.
Sog and Ermanaric both hit at the invisible wall of force doing 9 pts damage finally breaking threw.
Initiative: monster 6 group 2, the creature now stands, convulsing it pulls at Zargon, but Subdolus pulls right back with all of his might preventing the thing from getting at his friend more. Raising its other hand at the approaching party it shoots out a black ray hitting Fletcher, Ermanaric, Calahagan and Sogathan. Ermanaric fails and is paralyzed completely, the others all saved but still the effects of the negative energy was so powerful you can move only at 1/2 normal speed (so you can't go this round).
Initiative: monster 4, group 5. The thing now steps from its casket, still shaking and stumbling (just newly arrisen you feel it is at a disadvantage and are terrifide as to what it might become) each person on the tower hears in his mind "surrendor slaves and I will let you live".
Tiberious makes it out into the Hall covered in a cold sweat and begins to get back some of his courage and senses. He stops at the groups camp but can't bring himself to go back to the battle, his fear still preventing him to do so. The monk assumes a full lotus position and begins to meditate to hopefully remove his fear. Groups counter attack (let me know what you want to do).
